Movie Listicles

Listicles! This new word took over the internet a few years ago, mainly propagated by Buzzfeed, which describes clickbait articles like “10 Secrets That Trick Women Into Loving You” or some other such thing that pays like 10 bucks to write. Which to be fair is money…and work that I may have done before…but I digress…

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, so here’s the latest addition to Me Like Movies: listicles about various genres, topics, and approaches to films. These are much more informal than many of the articles on the site and take a more casual, loose look at the art of filmmaking. Think of these as bite-sized versions of the regular fare offered on Me Like Movies–ones that take half the time to read with ten times the information and films than an in-depth article that focuses on one particular film or director. Enjoy!

Worst to Best Gus Van Sant Films

A sort of American Andrei Tarkovsky, Gus Van Sant’s films are characterized by long tracking shots, stretches of unbroken silence, and drifting dream-like cinematography that makes seemingly everyday events something unique and special. Often depicting characters that live on the edge of society–either due to their sexual orientation, a purposeful defiance of norms, or from being misunderstood–Van Sant has enjoyed success in both the independent and mainstream film world.
